At Online Optimism, you’ll turn our designs into stunning clickable experiences. As part of our Design & Development team, you’ll work closely with designers to deliver websites and web applications for our organization and our clients.

We expect the job to be around:

  • 65% development of new client websites, including testing and deployment
  • 20% maintenance of existing client websites
  • 10% account executive work
  • 5% assisting members of our organization with technical work associated with our marketing campaigns


  • Develop and deploy WordPress websites, utilizing templates, modules, custom post types, and taxonomies for customized client themes
  • Use HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and JQuery to build a client’s website to fit their goals.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing across browsers and devices, with a focus on accessibility and performance
  • Troubleshoot and solve issues on new websites and assist clients with modifications and updates of existing websites
  • Conduct website trainings upon website launches
  • Provide technical expertise to our growth team to plan the scope of projects


  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent training/experience
  • Experience in a web development environment
  • A varied portfolio of projects you’ve created
  • Proven experience with responsive development + front-end (HTML5, CSS3, jQuery) and back-end (PHP) languages
  • Application of APIs, CRMs, and third party tools
  • Proven experience with WordPress development (custom themes, block editor, hooks, actions, filters, REST API, databases, and custom plugins)
  • Experience with DNS, CDN, and SSL setup and management
  • Experience with version control
  • Working knowledge of web accessibility (WCAG)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • An eye for design and the ability to work with designers

Bonus qualifications

  • Experience with headless website development
  • Experience implementing Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and other marketing tools
  • Experience with WooCommerce
  • Experience with other CMS, particularly Shopify
  • Experience creating UI components and advanced animation using JavaScript libraries
  • A love of office dogs

You receive additional benefits after some time at Online Optimism:

  • After five years: An increase from 15 to 20 days of paid vacation.
