Case Study: Enabling Action and Engagement on Doctors for America’s Redesigned Website

Challenge

Doctors for America (DFA) is a national organization that advocates for equitable, high-quality, and affordable healthcare. By mobilizing their network of doctors and medical students to be leaders in putting patients over politics, they work towards a vision of a healthy America for everyone.

Online Optimism worked with their team to create a website that fully reflects their mission, empowers members to have an active role in this mission, and allows DFA to easily promote their various initiatives.

A Hub for the Medical Community

The centerpiece of this website build is a membership portal that connects DFA’s members to important news and issues in their state and the nation.

DFA members can create profiles on the site, engage with action items including online campaigns and petitions, and access publications and other relevant resources for healthcare activism. As a part of DFA’s member benefits package, some pages, resources, and events on the website are exclusive to members only.

In addition to this, all 50 US states and Washington DC have their own chapter pages where leaders can publish state-specific information for their members.

An Online Action Center

During this website build, Doctors for America underwent a number of organizational changes, including a search for a new campaign platform. Our teams worked together to find a solution that met their needs and could be seamlessly integrated on the site.

The solution we found was the VoterVoice platform, which allows DFA to host their own campaigns and petitions, as well as empower their members to engage with these initiatives and contact their legislators—all through DFA’s new website.

A Robust Events Calendar

One of the many ways that Doctors for America engages with the community is through virtual events. For their new website, we integrated an easy-to-use events calendar that allows DFA to collect RSVPs, sell tickets to the public, and give exclusive access to medical professionals as a part of their membership benefits.

A Simplified Back-End Experience

A major pain point for the Doctors for America team on their previous website was its complex, difficult-to-navigate back-end environment. With this WordPress website build, we created a simplified, straightforward back-end that allows the DFA team to edit the site quickly and confidently without having to contact a support person.

ActBlue Donation Integration

We integrated ActBlue—the tool DFA uses to receive donations—directly onto the new website, so users never have to leave the site to make a donation.
