Apply to be a Specialist

Applications Considered on a Rolling Basis. Posted on September 10th, 2020.

Online Optimism is seeking a Business Development Specialist (paid intern) in the Washington D.C. area. We are a New Orleans agency working on expanding our client base in the District.

Your internship will last from October – December 2020 and be 20 – 35 hours/week. If your work is great, and you’re interested in staying on, there is the potential to become a Senior Specialist in the Spring. Of course, this is Business Development, and if you achieve great results from your time with us, there’s significant long-term potential.

This is an entirely remote internship opportunity, but we are looking for someone specifically based in the Washington, DC area. Our ideal candidate will be a senior or recent graduate from GW, Howard, American, Georgetown, or UDC, although we’re open to candidates with non-traditional backgrounds who care deeply about the DC area’s economic growth.

You will have the opportunity to work on projects based in the DMV, New Orleans, and nationwide.

Our Business Development Specialists get hands-on experience in the realm of advertising and selling digital marketing campaigns. Working under our Business Development Associate, you’ll have the opportunity to help grow our agency in real-time. This is not a sales job – there’s no cold calling or cold-leads at our agency. Business Development Specialists will cultivate the ability to generate client leads from inbound marketing strategies, learn to analyze the effectiveness of business development tactics, and develop a knack for forging strong client relationships. You’ll also have the opportunity to listen in on pitches with influential local and national business owners.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be Interested In:

  • Building and maintaining client relationships
  • Helping businesses grow and evolve
  • Building effective marketing campaigns
  • Lead generation and lead management
  • Growing a marketing agency in a brand new state

Your Day-To-Day Work Will Include:

  • Craft one-pagers that provide our team with more information about our new clients.
  • Join in on client discovery calls and proposal meetings, ask questions and take notes so we remain up-to-date with their needs.
  • Research & create new freebies that offer helpful resources to new businesses in the DMV.
  • Work with senior leadership to record conversations within our Sales CRM (HubSpot).
  • Craft proposals for potential clients that highlight all the services that we’re pitching them ensuring that they clearly understand the services provided.
  • Update our proposals based on feedback from our directors about how we’re selling their services.
  • Continually research new services that Online Optimism could potentially offer our existing clients as well as new clients.
  • Read through RFP’s to see if we would be a good fit for organizations looking for our services.
  • Keep our current freebies up-to-date with new industry trends and updated information.
  • Utilize Data Studio to help our team optimize their clients monthly reports.
