Design Strategist (New Orleans)

As a Design Strategist at Online Optimism, you’ll take an active role in crafting engaging content across a variety of mediums. You will be responsible for delivering forward-thinking work that supports Online Optimism and our clients’ brand stories. Your main job duties will be centered around a spectrum of tools, including Adobe Creative Cloud. Most commonly, you’ll find yourself working in Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Canva (to edit work produced by non-Design Optimists), and other design tools.

Our ideal candidate will be able to lead design efforts for social and digital advertising campaigns, and use a variety of skills and techniques such as:

  • Motion graphics
  • Illustration
  • UX/UI design
  • Social media-focused video and photography
  • Branding

While you may not have all of those capabilities when you start at Online Optimism, we expect you to come excited to learn and grow your skill set. In addition, you’ll be handling Account Executive work for certain projects that you’re leading. You will work directly under our Sr. Director of Design Innovation.

While we allow for a hybrid work environment, we are requiring employees for this position to be based in New Orleans, LA, where our creative studio is. While you can choose where you work each day (at home or in the office,) we’ll expect you to come in for production days 1-5 times / month.

Total financial compensation for the Design Strategist will range from $44,000 – $51,000 annually. No need to negotiate, exact benefit details are below.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Design Strategist position will be:

  • 70% creative design work for our marketing accounts. Your actual breakdown of work will depend on your strengths, and how you complement the rest of our team, but will likely consist of:
    • Campaign art direction
    • Static and animated social media ad design
    • Display ad design
    • Custom illustration using tools like Procreate
    • General motion graphics
    • Photography and image editing
    • Videography for social media
  • 25% Account Executive Duties, handling client relations for projects you work on such as smaller website projects (like SquareSpace and Wix accounts) or branding.
  • 5% Always optimizing, to improve the department.

A detailed breakdown of your expected job duties is below:

GRAPHIC DESIGN WORK

  • Work closely with members of our team to craft engaging materials for digital campaigns, using tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, AfterEffects, and Google Web Designer.
  • Deliver consistently branded materials that support Online Optimism and our clients’ goals.
  • Create engaging motion graphics using Adobe AfterEffects.
  • Help maintain our design assets.
  • Collaborate with the other members of the Design team, giving and accepting feedback, to improve the department’s overall performance.

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE DUTIES

  • Work directly with clients, acting in an account executive role for 1–2 branding or interactive projects. These projects may include:
    • Developing brand identities, including logos, iconography, and brand standards for small to medium-sized clients.
    • Creating comprehensive website wireframes using Adobe XD, that can be reviewed by our clients and used for development.
    • Developing websites for small to medium-sized clients using Squarespace or visual builders.

ALWAYS OPTIMIZING

  • Suggest ideas, explore new tools, and take initiative to increase Online Optimism’s design and development work.

Job Compensation

The total compensation package for this position is between $44,302 – $51,190.60 annually depending on your insurance choices. Your employment package includes:

  • $40,000 as a base annual salary, which is $769.23 paid weekly.
  • Technology stipend of $960 / year (also paid weekly.)
  • SIMPLE IRA plan with 3% matching. If you put in 3%, this is an additional $1,200 / year.
